A deformed soldier returns victorious from the battlefield. His physical appearance, and thirst for violence, prevent him from adjusting to peace. While the rest of the army become lovers and partygoers, Richard channels his energy into his next target: murdering his way to the crown.
An epic production performed in The Faction’s trademark physical style by a diverse ensemble of 21 performers directed by Artistic Director Mark Leipacher. The large cast allows audiences to follow the individual characters from the dynasties of the warring York and Lancaster families, and how they are all terrorised by Shakespeare’s most entertaining villain.
In this highly physical show, the actors use their bodies to create every element they need to tell the story from ghosts, to the Tower of London, and even a horse going into battle.
Working with The Faction has been amazing. Devising this highly performative and stylised piece where bodies become the set and the sound replaces props with such fantastic individuals. And they even let me techno, what’s not to love?
“Lex Kosanke’s sound design is integral to the atmosphere of the piece: the timpani of the battlefield, the zing and scrape of blades, the queasy creak of the noose.” – Natasha Tripney, The Stage
