In 2021, a year into the pandemic, we somehow stemmed our first international transfer of The Grand Expedition (Gingerline’s faboulous, Vernian five-course fever dream) to Shanghai with the UK team working from home. Two of the main takeaways from this process where that 1) The appeal and magic of this show translates well to an entirely different audience across the globe and 2) Having the expertise our team has developed over the past decade on the ground would make the experience of delivering this show considerably smoother for everyone involved.
With the global situation improving I was very fortunate to be able travel to Seoul for September 2022 alongside a small core of creatives from the show’s original UK incarnation and work together with the teams from imculture and New Contents Company on bringing the show to Korean audiences. Once I got accustomed to my new role as Technical Director we were ready for the show to take-off and I’m very proud of what our teams have achieved, especially in terms of the show’s the level of polish and finish.
