Eitan is 17. Avi is 35.
Eitan loves Arsenal. Avi loves his wife. Eitan goes to college. Avi is trying for a child.
They are in completely different places in their lives. Yet, every Friday, Eitan and Avi meet at the Mikvah to take part in the Jewish ritual of submerging in the water.
As they chat about life in the synagogue, football, the nature of marriage and desire, they form an unexpected bond that threatens to disrupt life outside the Mikvah.
A play about the courage it takes to confront our hidden desires. Filled with singing and water, chutzpah and joy we are reminded how easily a heart can break.
With this fantastic play having it’s run cut short by the Covid-19 pandemic, it was adapted to the radio as part of the Lockdown Theatre Festival on Radio 4. Please have a listen to a selection of excerpts from this version with recording and additional sound design by Steve Bond
Lex Kosanke’s sound design builds on the intentionally subdued stillness of this intimate space, adding hollow echoes and yearning, swelling strings, all of which are drowned out at appropriate moments by thumping bursts of playfully selected dance music.

Lex Kosanke’s sound design is excellent here, with subtle echoing of voices within the mikvah and then booming bass during the London and Alicante clubbing scenes.
